Water connection

You may need a new water supply for:

A new or existing property - where a water supply doesn't currently exist.
An existing property - where the existing water supply needs replacing, enlarging or changing from a shared supply.
Temporary Building Supply (TBS) - should you require a TBS this can either be disconnected or changed to a permanent water supply once you have completed your project.
Something else - such as field use or other internal or external water supplies.

We’re here to support you every step of the way in getting your new water connection. There will be tasks for you to complete, and others that we’ll take care of for you. Step 1 - Apply

Before you apply you'll need to have some useful information to hand.

Find out what information you need here.
Register and make an application on our online portal Inflow.
If you would prefer it you can download and complete an application form here.
Before submitting a paper application form, please check that Anglian Water are the supplier for your region.
Check our average timescales so you have an idea of how long your project may take.

Step 2 - Evaluate

Once you have submitted your application to us, and made payment for your application fee, we will complete a survey and review your application along with providing a detailed cost estimate* and guidance on the pipework you need to lay and how to lay it. 

There are certain factors that determine how long it will take to make your water connection as we may have to obtain local authority permits if traffic management is required. Our specialist will talk you through your project's timescales with you once you have submitted your application. 

*When we provide you your project survey and cost estimate, the total amount is based on your agreed design to make your estimate as accurate as possible and we will communicate this with you at the earliest opportunity. But in some cases, unforeseen circumstances during the construction phase may increase the total amount payable. Therefore this estimate is provided on the information that we had available at the time, but may be subject to significant variance should anything change. In some instances, the scope could decrease and we will communicate this to you and offer a refund for the difference.

Step 3 - Construct

Once you have paid your cost estimate and are ready, we'll need you to lay some of the external pipework first as we are legally unable to work on your private land.

Use our "How to lay your pipework guide" to ensure you lay your pipe work correctly.
You'll get a discount if you use one of our approved plumbers to lay your external pipework.
Some connections may require the pipework to be chlorinated but we'll advise you if this is the case. Find out "How and when to chlorinate your supply pipe" if you are required to.

When your external pipework is laid, call us on 03456 066 087 to arrange a pipework check. Unforeseen circumstances during the construction phase may increase the total amount payable at the end of your project.

Step 4 - Check

After your connection has been made, you'll need to install your internal fixtures and fittings.

If you use one of our approved plumbers to install your fixtures & fittings you'll get a discount.
Once you have installed your internal fixtures & fittings you will need to arrange an internal pipework inspection and meter fit. Please call us on 03456 066 087 to book this. If there are no problems the meter will be fitted on the same day.

Step 5 - Complete

We will fit a water meter.

If there were changes to your cost estimate during the construction phase, this will now be payable.

If your project is a new build, we'll leave a "Welcome to your new home" guide to enable you to set up an account.

MyAccount is our online service that allows you to manage your account with us. All you need is your account number and postcode.

Appoint a retailer - If your water connection is for a non-residential property, or for
a temporary build supply, you’ll need to appoint a retailer who you’ll pay your water bill to at this point. To read more and for guidance on selecting a retailer, please visit the Open Water website.

Ready to apply?

Our quotes are valid for 6 months or until 31st March each year. If you don't think you will be ready for your connection in that time then now might not be the right time to apply.

When you are ready to apply you will just need to register and complete an application using our portal Inflow.
