If there's a blockage in the sewers and drains around your home, it's useful to know who's responsible for fixing it.

 

Homeowners​
The pipework that sits in your property's boundary which carries wastewater away from your toilets, showers and sinks, plus any surface rainwater from your home is your responsibility. If you rent your home, your landlord will be responsible for these pipes.​

You will also be responsible for sections of pipes shared between yourself and your neighbour, if your home was built after 2011 – unless it's been transferred to us. ​

Anglian Water​
All main public sewers (generally under roads and footpaths) are maintained and repaired by our teams. ​

If your home was built before 2011, generally, we also look after any pipes you share with your neighbours within your property boundary as well.​

If your home was built after 2011, we only look after shared pipes if they have been transferred to us by the housing developer, through an adoption agreement. ​

Fixing a problem

If you think one of our sewers is blocked, report the problem online or call us on 03457 145 145 and we’ll arrange for our teams to come out to you to fix the problem.​


If it’s in your drain or private sewer, you (or your landlord) will need to contact an independent drain clearing company to help fix the problem for you. ​
