Calling all young witches, ghosts, and zombies! Alton Water and Taverham Mill are set for a spooky end to half term, jam-packed with Halloween-themed activities for the whole family – with fancy dress welcome.

As a designated ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and Suffolk’s only accredited Green Flag Award holder, Alton Water attracts a wide range of wildlife both on and around the water. The park has a three-mile nature trail on its south shore which includes woodland, a butterfly garden, wildlife meadow and ponds. Set across more than 400 acres, Alton Water is a haven of nature and wildlife which offers a beautiful autumn day out for nature lovers – and the Halloween offering is no different.

Young sports enthusiasts can get in the spooky spirit with a round of Halloween-themed mini golf at Alton Water – and there are mysteries around every corner as guests try to crack the code on the park’s Spooky Trail.

Entry to the Halloween mini golf and the Spooky Trail costs £6 per child, and golf is £5 per adult, with fun for all the family on between 10am and 3pm until Sunday 29th October. There’s no need to book – just turn up to the Alton Water, Holbrook Road, Ipswich, IP9 2RY, pay and play!

Nestled along an idyllic stretch of Norfolk’s River Wensum and just a stone’s throw from Norwich, Taverham Mill boasts a dog-friendly nature reserve, Highland Cattle, fishing lakes, a play area, cosy café, seasonal canoe hire, and even overnight accommodation. Along the board walks, grassland, meadows and woodland of the reserve, visitors will find various hides to sit and enjoy the abundance of wildlife; from dragonflies and butterflies, to owls and other birds of prey. During the summer and autumn, guests can see the nature reserve from a different perspective by hiring a traditional canoe and exploring the River Wensum. But this weekend, Taverham will transform into a haunted Halloween trail…

The autumnal nature trail will guide visitors around the park, finding spooky facts and signs of autumn along the way – with Halloween rewards for all who take part! The trail is open between 10am and 3pm over the Halloween weekend, and costs £5 per adult and £3 per child. As at Alton Water, there’s no need to book ahead – visitors can simply turn up to the Taverham Mill Visitor Centre, Costessey Road, Norwich, NR8 6TA on the day.

The rest of Anglian Water’s parks around the East of England will also be celebrating Halloween. Grafham Water, near Huntingdon, is hosting a ghoulish game of crazy golf and a Halloween scavenger hunt on at its Visitor Centre in Marlow Park, PE28 0BH, from 10am until 4pm this weekend.

There are also mini golf games and a spooky trail, as well as spooky craft sessions, at Rutland Water Visitor Centre, Sykes Lane, Empingham, LE15 8QL. Rutland’s mini golf and Halloween trail are open between 10am and 3pm over the weekend, with craft sessions running from 10am to 4pm.
