Maintaining our existing assets and undertaking new projects to safeguard future water supplies are key requirements of the water regulator Ofwat.

In order to meet and exceed Ofwat’s requirements, we invest heavily in varying programmes, collaborating with approved project partners. Our investment period runs from 2015 to 2030 and following a tender process, our partners have shown they can deliver the essential elements of our Business Plan to the timescales we require.

The projects (which we believe are some of the most ambitious in the UK) include: the design and build of new water recycling treatment centres, the replacement/upgrade of existing assets and improvements to supply chain efficiency.

• The Strategic Pipeline Alliance partners are:  Anglian Water, Costain, Farrans, Jacobs, Mott MacDonald Bentley. Anglian Water selected the partners after a competitive procurement process that started in 2019. The work will be a complex and challenging major infrastructure project. The partners bring a wealth of experience, new mindsets, thinking and innovation for what is an incredibly exciting programme. Anglian Water is ultimately responsible for the delivery of schemes identified and approved in the Water Resources Management Plan 2019. • The Anglian Water @one Alliance - comprises consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders who together will deliver projects accounting for over half our capital investment programme. The @one Alliance will design and build around 800 schemes worth approximately £1.2billion and these include: water and water recycling treatment centres serving more than six million people in eastern England (and the Hartlepool Water region) and maintaining/improving our region’s water mains and sewerage network. Alliance partners are: Anglian Water Asset Delivery, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, MMB, SWECO, Skanska and MWH Treatment.
• Integrated Operational Solutions - created by us at the start of 2015 with a view to run for 15 years, the team concentrates on solutions across the water recycling and clean water asset base, typically totalling £50-60m per year. Primarily delivering smaller replacement and refurbishment projects on above ground mechanical and electrical assets, refurbishment and replacement of key infrastructure pipelines and buildings, and improvements to existing assets and systems, extending their shelf life and performance. Alliance partners are: Anglian Water, Morrison Utility Services, Barhale and Kier.
• Integrated Maintenance and Repair Water Recycling – formed in April 2015 to manage planned and emergency sewer and rising mains repairs. They also repair manholes and replace manholes and their chambers, prevent water build-up and floods and handle public and transferred assets. This group has five partners: Anglian Water, Clancy Docwra, Claret Civil Engineering, Public Sewer Services and Danaher & Walsh.
• Integrated Maintenance and Repair Water Alliance - this alliance focuses on infrastructure maintenance work and is responsible for: water network pressure management, finding and fixing leaks, replacing lead pipes and repairing burst mains. The partners are: Clancy Docwra, Kier and Anglian Water Services.
• Integrated Metering and Developer Services – this group delivers our household and business metering programme, including installing new and replacing old meters and managing three smart metering trials. It also carries out customer water efficiency audits, lays new or diversion water mains, plus lays water connections to new or existing housing developments. Its partners are: Clancy Docwra and Kier.
