If fats, oils and grease (FOG) together with leftover food go down pipes, they will become solid and cause a blockage. This can happen in commercial kitchens and in homes too.

 

Did you know there is 551 tonnes of fat oil and grease sitting in the sewer network that we need to remove every year? And if not remove, treated and disposed of safely and efficiently it can cause flooding in homes and pollution of the local environment.

But fat, oil and grease are waste resources and not waste! They can be reused and recycled and become part of the circular economy where it can be turned into revenue for your business. Both used cooking oil and brown grease can be used for bioresources and are seen as useful renewable sources of energy. ​

Used Cooking Oil​
Used cooking oil, or UCO, is what the industry call yellow grease. It is exactly what it says on the tin – oil that has been used and is no longer good for cooking with. This oil needs to be captured and stored in a container to be collected by a waste contractor for recycling.​

Brown grease​
This is the fat oil and grease waste collected from grease control devices or grease traps. A grease trap will collect fat, oil and grease and prevent it from entering the sewers. Compared to used cooking oil, brown grease is more challenging to collect without the right grease trap equipment.
