Anglian Water is launching 67 new operational apprenticeship positions, ranging from Level 3 to degree level, encouraging people to consider working within the utilities industry. This large number of positions the water company has opened up and provides the perfect route for budding engineers and technicians into this vital area of work.
The water company, which has a big requirement for science and engineering skills in its workforce, offers apprentices an opportunity to work and learn simultaneously in operational, maintenance and engineering roles across the region, guaranteeing a permanent role at the end of the course, along with a nationally recognised qualification, subject to performance and behavioural reviews.
Alex Curtis, 2nd year Mechanical and Electrical Apprentice said: “At the time I applied for Anglian Water I was at college doing a plumbing course, I saw the job advert for the apprenticeship, and I wanted a practical job that I knew would challenge me. I thought how great it would be for me to join one of the biggest water companies in the UK, with many career progression opportunities and gain a nationally recognised qualification.”
Rebecca Dunne, a former leakage apprentice with Anglian Water said: “I highly recommend apprenticeships now to anyone at that age looking at what to do in life, especially if you aren’t sure you want to go to university. I am so glad now that I took the route I did as I am now in a role that I am really proud of.”
Courses can last between 18 months and four years, depending on the type of role, and is often a mixture of classroom and practical hands-on learning supporting the team, across the region.
The first phase of the recruitment drive will be for 55 Level 3 opportunities ranging from leakage technicians to mechanical and electrical apprentices. These opportunities are open for applications this week as part of National Apprenticeship Week and will remain open until Sunday 5th March.
Successful applicants will start their roles in August/September 2023.
Applications for higher level apprenticeships (Level 4 and degree apprenticeships) are due to be released in April/May.
